Five for Friday | The Week's Best Blogs (12/14/07 Edition)

December 14th, 2007 in Friday Blog Clips

by: Matthew Griffin

Every week I spend hours reading and commenting on new media and design blogs. I run across so much good information that it's impossible to write one post for each great article I discover. So I've decided it's time to start making a weekly list of my favorite blog posts. Every Friday, I'll be publishing my "Five for Friday"—five exceptional articles posted by web design and new media bloggers during the preceding week.

Some weeks the links may all be related to a single topic and others they will be completely random. But they will always relate to the web design business. I'll also attach a brief summary to each link so you don't waste your time clicking around. Without further delay, here's the first edition of Five for Friday.

Google Releases Chart Image Generator - Google Blogoscoped
Google recently released a free chart image generator that looks promising. This article gives the rundown on how to use the new API to quickly insert dynamic charts into a website.

Internet Explorer User 6.0: Upgrade Please - Pomomusings
I think we can all relate to this sentiment. I spent a good part of this week debugging a site for IE 6.0 so this article really made be want to through up my rock fist. Down with 6.0!

Researching a Niche: Tools & Techniques - Vandelay Design
This article has a great list of tools for researching a niche market. I am continually amazed by the volume of good content Vandelay pumps out every week. This article is no exception.

How to Trash Your Blog's Brand in 5 Easy Steps - Courtney Tuttle
Here, Courtney enumerates a very insightful list of bad blogging practices. They aren't all the ones we hear over an over again so make sure to check them out.

Top 10 Books for Web Workers - Web Worker Daily
We see a lot of article lists on web design blogs (like this one), but very few book lists. I've found that reading blog articles alone isn't enough to give me a good solid understanding of certain topics—only a full-length book can do that. This is a classic book list for the web designer.

That's all for this week. If you run across a great article you think should be featured in a future edition Five for Friday, please send me a link and I'll make sure to cite you as the source.
